Job summary

Leidos in the United States is hiring a Microgrid Project Engineer for Energy Storage and Generation Applications (100% Remote) to support distributed energy and microgrid projects. You’ll work with solar, storage, controls, and engines, providing Owner’s Engineer services and lifecycle support to multiple clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with power focus and 4–8 years of field experience.
• Demonstrated Owner’s Engineering services for PV or power projects across multiple clients.
• Strong client focus and interest in groundbreaking projects.
• Design experience in distribution, substation protection & control, or substations.
• Solid knowledge of NEC, IEEE 1547, IEEE 386 standards.
• Ability to create One Line Diagrams, Electrical Plans/Elevations, AC/DC Schematics.
• Familiarity with FAT, SAT, and on-site commissioning of power systems.
• Understanding of DER tech including storage, solar, engines/turbines.
• Experience with DER interconnections (CPUC Rule 21).
• Experience with interconnection studies (Detailed/Facility/System Impact).
• Collaborates with project managers, engineers, regulators.
• Knowledge of pre-construction planning, permitting, coordination.
• Experience with DER communication protocols (IEEE 2030.5, SunSpec, Modbus, DNP3).

Responsibilities

• Provide resilient power system solutions using diverse resources.
• Lead client goals to practical, high-value solutions.
• Design installations up to 35kV and interconnections at higher voltages.
• Coordinate interconnections with utilities and applications.
• Interpret legacy drawings and incomplete data to plan and design.
• Manage engineering subconsultants and construction partners.
• Act as Owner’s Engineer representing client interests through lifecycle stages.
• Lead technical reviews of EPC and OEM deliverables for standards.
• Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, and performance validation.
