Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a meticulous Outpatient Coder to review medical records and assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes. You will abstract data, ensure accurate coding, and support timely billing to reduce outstanding receivables.

Requirements include a high school diploma, coding coursework in anatomy and medical terminology, and 1 year of hospital or clinic coding. Preferred certifications include RHIT, RHIA, CCS-P, CPC, COC, or CPC-A.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Completion of coding courses in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
• 1 year hospital or physician coding experience.
• 1 year coding at mid-level facilities or clinics.
• 1 year coding major surgeries, observations and/or E/Ms.
• HIPAA compliance knowledge and adherence to privacy policies.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and interprets medical information, physician treatment plans, course, and outcome to determine appropriate ICD-10 CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstracts data elements to satisfy statistical requests and enters all coded/abstracted information into designated system.
• Ensures efficient management of medical information and cash flow as it pertains to the unbilled coding report.
• Keeps informed of changes/updates in ICD-10 CM/CPT guidelines and implements these updates in daily work.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
