Job summary

rePurpose Global is seeking a Materials & Technical Compliance Engineer to break down products into materials, analyze BOMs, and translate findings into precise regulatory classifications across U.S. and Canadian jurisdictions.

You will work with product and engineering to build defensible reports, model material switches, and shape our compliance engine—bridging materials science with policy and platform logic in a globally oriented team.

Qualifications

• A materials or engineering foundation; degree and/or hands-on background.
• Ability to reason about resins, laminates, coatings, composites, or multi-layer assemblies; estimate composition/weight.
• High attention to detail and accuracy with high-stakes analysis and QC.
• Strong interest in regulatory text and research to ground technical decisions.
• Clear communication translating material/regulatory analysis to product/engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Analyze material composition, BOM structures, and weights; determine material types and proxies when data is incomplete.
• Translate composition into jurisdiction-specific reporting classifications grounded in regulation.
• Model material recommendations, cost/ performance tradeoffs, and design-for-circularity options for customers.
• Own and update validation logic and routing rules across jurisdictions.
• Perform multi-pass QC to ensure schema conformance and accurate client deliverables.
• Address the hardest technical questions on composition, classification, exemptions, and mapping.
• Contribute to shaping the rules engine behind automated material suggestions and compliance routing.
• Collaborate with product and engineering to ground platform logic in material facts.
