Job description

Material Compliance Engineer (6-month Contract // Irvine, CA)

This role is critical to ensuring material compliance across product families in alignment with project deadlines, as the team works through a significant volume of product compliance evaluation updates. This engineer will need to start in early April, the project is currently scheduled to end at the end of November. Working at least 4 days/week onsite in Irvine is required.

The first part of this engagement will be focused on training and onboarding, including gaining familiarity with internal material compliance databases where BOMs from ERP systems are mapped and maintained. You will learn how product compliance evaluations are structured by region to ensure products meet requirements for global market access, as well as how to perform hazardous material assessments. Candidates without prior regulatory experience will be trained on key frameworks such as EU directives, RoHS, and REACH. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer to build specialized expertise in product stewardship and compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support updates of product compliance evaluations across product families to meet defined regulatory deadlines
  • Perform material compliance assessments to ensure products meet regional requirements for market access
  • Analyze and interpret Bills of Materials (BOMs), product drawings, and certifications to assess compliance
  • Conduct hazardous material evaluations using internal compliance tools and databases
  • Work within ERP and material compliance databases where BOMs are mapped and maintained
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely compliance reporting
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is preferred
  • 1–5 years of relevant experience (product compliance, quality, materials engineering, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of product structures and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and certifications
  • Advanced Excel skills, including data analysis and automation
  • Proficiency in PLM systems
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage large volumes of data in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations such as RoHS, REACH, or other EU directives (training provided if needed)
  • Knowledge of California Proposition 65 is a plus
  • Experience working with ERP and/or material compliance databases
