Job summary

Oportun seeks a Manager, Loan and Debt Accounting to oversee daily accounting for the loan portfolio and debt, drive month-end close, and lead a growing team. You will strengthen controls and partner across Finance and Technology to scale accounting operations, while using AI thoughtfully to improve analysis and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 6+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
• Experience with loan, lending, debt, or other financial-services-related accounting.
• Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing accounting professionals.
• Experience with internal controls and accounting process improvements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate complex accounting issues.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines in a dynamic environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to partner across Finance and other functions.
• Willingness to use AI-enabled tools and emerging technologies responsibly to improve accounting analysis, documentation, and processes while maintaining appropriate review and controls.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting activities for loan portfolio and debt, ensuring accurate recording.
• Lead the month-end close process for loan- and debt-related accounts.
• Supervise, coach, and develop accounting team members.
• Strengthen accounting processes and internal controls to reduce manual work and improve data quality.
• Partner with Finance, Technology, and other teams to implement improvements and scalable accounting practices.
