Job summary

American Family Insurance Agency Staff is seeking a legal support professional to assist attorneys in defined phases of litigation and non-litigation under supervision. This remote-friendly role reports to a manager in legal services and offers compensation ranges with relocation support for eligible candidates.

You will draft pleadings, manage discovery, summarize medical records, and assist in depositions and trials, contributing to case strategy while upholding strict confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Experience providing customer-driven solutions or service.
• Experience performing legal research and investigations with minimal supervision.
• Experience preparing pleadings, motions, discovery responses and other legal correspondence.
• Knowledge of insurance, legal ethics, and confidentiality.
• Experience with PC software, legal research tools and trial applications (Microsoft Office, Westlaw, Trial Pad).
• Knowledge of tort and contract law, legal procedures and terminology.

• Assist attorney in complex depositions, hearings, trials and other settings as needed.
• Represent insured or the company in small claims / conciliation court for defense or subrogation if applicable by jurisdiction.
• Review files to determine issues, records needed and the possibility of settlement.

This position provides effective support in defined phases of the litigation or non-litigation process under the close supervision of an attorney.

You will report to a manager, legal services.

Remote in Portland, OR Metro area only.

Compensation

Position Compensation Range: $27.46 - $45.11

Pay Rate Type: Hourly

Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location. Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates.

Primary Accountabilities

• Assist attorney in trial preparation.
• Draft pleadings, discovery documents, motions, deposition summaries, abstracts, correspondence and legal memorandums under the supervision of an attorney.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements

• Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service.
• Demonstrated experience performing legal research, conducting investigations, gathering and summarizing medical records, indexing depositions, gathering evidence and preparing exhibits for trial, with minimal assistance.
• Demonstrated experience preparing pleadings, motions, deposition summaries, discovery responses, and other legal correspondence with minimal assistance.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of insurance, legal ethics rules and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
• Demonstrated experience with various PC software applications, legal research tools and trial applications. (e.g. Microsoft Office Suites, Internet Explorer, Outlook, Acrobat, Westlaw and Trial Pad).
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of tort and contract law, legal procedures, legal terminology, and the judicial system.
