Job summary

Manulife/John Hancock is seeking a Life Underwriting Auditor to conduct detailed audits of underwriting initiatives, ensuring decisions align with pricing, mortality assumptions, and regulatory requirements.

You will review medical and financial underwriting, identify patterns, and partner with risk and training teams to drive CAPs and improvements. This is a remote role open to continental US.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of life insurance underwriting experience in medical and financial underwriting.
• Strong understanding of life insurance products, underwriting guidelines, and risk selection principles.
• Ability to interpret complex medical and financial information and assess risk appropriately.
• Excellent analytical, detail-oriented, and pattern-recognition skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication, with ability to present findings to underwriters and leadership.
• High professionalism, integrity, and discretion with sensitive information.
• Experience in audit, quality assurance, or risk management in life underwriting.
• Familiarity with governance frameworks, risk controls, and regulatory expectations related to underwriting.
• Comfort working with data (Excel, BI tools) to analyze audit results and trends.
• Professional designations such as ALU, FALU, FLMI or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Conduct post-issue audits and monitor underwriting initiatives to assess technical accuracy and guideline adherence.
• Review underwriting decisions for medical, financial, and operational soundness.
• Identify material errors, trends, and themes in audit results and prepare reports and recommendations for management.
• Collaborate with Underwriting Management and Risk Management to develop CAPs and track remediation progress.
• Support the ongoing enhancement of the Underwriting Risk Control Framework, including KRIs and governance standards.
• Translate audit findings into targeted training, coaching, and guideline clarifications.
• Provide input into innovation initiatives by testing and evaluating impact on underwriting quality and risk.
• Assist with design and execution of Targeted audits for Underwriting Innovation initiatives.
• Ensure audit documentation is complete and suitable for internal audit, governance committees, and regulatory review.
• Contribute to ongoing continuous improvement of audit frameworks, metrics, and reporting.
