Job summary

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP seeks an experienced Legal Researcher to perform in-depth legal, regulatory, tax, and corporate research supporting attorneys and staff. This role may be performed remotely and requires residence in a state with an office.

You will collaborate across practice areas and contribute to strategic research initiatives. Ideal candidates bring 3–5 years of experience, an advanced degree in Library Science or a JD, and strong skills in databases like Lexis and CourtLink.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Library Science or equivalent with 3–5 years of in-depth legal research experience.
  • Understanding of litigation and transactional practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with excellent organizational abilities.
  • Familiarity with legal AI tools and ability to use AI for research.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-level legal, regulatory, legislative, corporate, and general research for attorneys and administrative staff in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of standard databases including Lexis, CourtLink, public records platforms, and other research tools.
  • Consult with attorneys to clarify objectives, recommend research strategies, and deliver actionable results.
  • Provide business development, competitive intelligence, client, industry, and market research to support firm initiatives.
  • Prepare concise research summaries, reports, and source analyses that synthesize findings and identify next steps.
  • Create and maintain alerts to monitor clients, cases, and industries relevant to attorney needs.
  • Support AI initiatives by evaluating and assisting with new technologies and AI tools with responsible use.
  • Assist with onboarding and training on legal research tools and AI-enabled platforms.
  • Work collaboratively and independently to ensure top-quality research results.
  • Other related responsibilities as needed.
