Job summary

ConnectDER seeks a Lead Device Software Engineer, Embedded & Firmware in Philadelphia, with remote options. You will own the device software system end-to-end, define architecture, and drive fast, iterative delivery across Data Acquisition, Control, Communication and Integration subsystems.

You’ll lead safety-critical software, perform NRTL-related tasks, and coordinate with electrical engineering for board bring-up, testing, and secure firmware updates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science with 7+ years in firmware.
• Clear documentation and design-diagram discipline; drive safety certification.
• Led technical direction, partitioned workstreams, and shipped code.
• Embedded mastery in C, C++, and/or Rust; debugging embedded systems.
• Experience with 32-bit MCUs (ARM Cortex-M or similar) and RTOS.
• AI-assisted development with ownership and explainable decisions.
• Strong communication and prioritization of business value.

Responsibilities

• Own the device software architecture; define scope and interfaces.
• Architect safety-critical software; own safety case and certification.
• Design metering systems: data acquisition, signal processing, calibration.
• Co-design hardware-software; drive board bring-up and testability.
• Own secure firmware updates: secure boot, code signing, key management.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines; move from prototype to mass production.
