Job summary

ConnectDER in Philadelphia is seeking a hands-on Technical Lead for device software who will own the IslandDER software stack end to end. You’ll define architecture, break work into streams, and lead a small firmware team of three while writing production code.

You’ll design metering and control subsystems, ensure safety and security, and steer the secure firmware-update path from development to OTA delivery, collaborating with EE and external battery/inverter partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science with 7+ years shipping firmware.
• Clear, thorough technical documentation and design diagrams; drive safety certification (IEC 61508 / IEC 60730 / UL 1998).
• Led technical direction of a project; architects approach, partitions workstreams, and ships code.
• Embedded mastery in C, C++, and/or Rust with debugging on 32-bit MCUs and RTOS.
• Experience with safety-critical software, code-signing, and secure boot concepts.

Responsibilities

• Own the overall device software architecture and break requirements into workstreams.
• Architect and implement safety-critical software, defining safety boundary and NRTL engagement.
• Design metering systems including data acquisition, signal processing, calibration.
• Co-design hardware/software with EE; drive board bring-up and testability improvements.
• Own secure firmware update path including code signing and PKI.
• Maintain modern CI/CD pipelines and scalable test strategies.
