Job summary

Boston Engineering in Waltham, Massachusetts seeks a hands-on Lead Firmware Engineer focused on embedded and firmware work, including RTOS-based systems, hardware bring-up, and cross-disciplinary collaboration with electrical and mechanical teams.

The Lead owns embedded software at tactical and strategic levels, setting technical direction, documenting processes, and raising the bar across projects while mentoring engineers and leading design reviews.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years in embedded/firmware development; 3+ years in senior/lead role.
• Fluency in C/C++ for embedded systems and Python for tooling/testing.
• Experience with RTOS (FreeRTOS/ROS2/Zephyr) in embedded targets.
• Strong debugging, schematics/PCB review, and hardware interaction.

Responsibilities

• Lead design reviews, architecture discussions, and roadmap planning.
• Own embedded software direction, architecture, and processes.
• Mentor engineers on firmware architecture, debugging techniques, and best practices.
• Develop firmware tightly integrated with hardware, sensors, and control systems.
• Ensure real-time performance, reliability, and mission-critical requirements.
