Job summary

Huron Consulting Group is seeking a Lead Data Engineer in the United States to provide technical leadership for a platform engineering team and unify a diverse analytics ecosystem.

You'll mentor engineers, drive platform design decisions, and deliver integrated data pipelines on AWS, with Terraform/CDK-based infrastructure, while collaborating with data teams to align data contracts and governance.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering, with 3+ years in data engineering, integration, platform, or infrastructure.
• 2+ years in a technical lead role: directing work, mentoring engineers, reviewing code/designs.
• Proficiency in Python: writing production-grade code.
• Strong SQL skills with large/complex datasets.
• Hands-on AWS experience (compute, storage, at least one data service).
• Interest in AI-assisted development tools and how AI changes engineering.
• Ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly and map into pipelines.
• Strong written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for a small platform engineers team and translate guidance into work.
• Mentor engineers through pairing, code review, and design feedback.
• Coordinate delivery across distributed contributors and surface risks early.
• Remain a hands-on contributor for complex integration and platform work.
• Audit analytics apps and design integration patterns for interoperation.
• Build shared platform services (auth, observability, logging) to reduce duplication.
• Develop understanding of data pipelines and partner with domain teams.
