Job summary

Our client is seeking a Lead Data Engineer / Architect to take full ownership of data architecture decisions and the engineering roadmap. You will stand up a Databricks (or Snowflake, or Hybrid)-based Data Lakehouse from greenfield and define patterns for years to come.

You will recruit, mentor, and scale a small high-caliber team while collaborating with COO and stakeholders to govern data assets and enable investment analytics.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in data engineering, data architecture, or a combined role.
• 3+ years working with cloud data platforms (Databricks or Snowflake strongly preferred).
• Strong hands-on dbt experience: model design, testing, documentation, semantic layer development.
• Experience managing or mentoring engineers and growing people.
• Track record of working with senior business stakeholders and translating requirements into technical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design and own the end-to-end data architecture and lakehouse design.
• Define data modeling standards: star schema, dimensional modeling, semantic layer design using dbt.
• Establish data governance including lineage, cataloging, and access controls.
• Own the technology selection process with COO and stakeholders.
• Ensure architecture supports investment analytics, portfolio reporting, and operational workflows at scale.
• Build and own the ingestion layer (Fivetran/Airbyte connections).
• Develop and maintain dbt transformation models, tests, and documentation.
• Configure and manage pipelines with Airflow or Prefect.
• Write production-grade Python for data pipelines and connectors.
• Build internal dashboards with Plotly Dash or Streamlit.
• Integrate Claude Enterprise into data workflows for AI-assisted analysis.
• Recruit, interview, onboard, and mentor direct reports.
