Job summary

Alt is hiring a Controller to build and own Alt's accounting function from the ground up. You will close the books monthly, drive the transition to full US GAAP accrual accounting across all revenue streams, and take charge of tax and systems work, reporting directly to the Head of Finance.

This build-from-scratch, remote US role at an early-stage company lets you establish policies, controls, and a growing team as volume scales, bringing finance in-house from an outsourced provider.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on controllership.
• Deep US GAAP knowledge, with experience converting to accrual accounting.
• Proven ownership of an external audit relationship with PBC lists and auditor communications.
• Experience in a marketplace, fintech, or lending environment.
• Fluency with QuickBooks, Ramp, Rippling, and SQL/BI; able to tie GL to source data.
• Experience managing outsourced, fractional, or offshore accounting teams.
• Nice to have asset-backed lending or fundraising/diligence experience.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly close end-to-end and drive toward an audit-ready close.
• Lead conversion from cash/mixed-basis to full US GAAP accrual across all revenue streams.
• Own chart of accounts and revenue recognition policy; connect GL to data warehouse and feed into ERP.
• Be the primary contact for external auditors and manage PBC lists.
• Own tax compliance calendar (corporate returns, K-1s, 1099s) with outside advisors.
• Oversee covenant and borrowing-base reporting for asset-backed facility.
• Manage day-to-day accounting ops and oversee outsourced provider with plan to bring in-house.
