Job summary

The Lead Child Care Consultant role with the State of North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services focuses on conducting pre-licensing activities, providing training and program consultation, and supporting regulatory compliance for eastern region child care centers.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a discipline relative to the program from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of related experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a discipline relative to the program area from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of related experience
• An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-licensing activities for child care centers within the assigned region.
• Provide training and consultation to current and prospective child care operators to support understanding of child care requirements.
• Deliver or coordinate consultation and training related to Corrective Action Plans and Settlement Agreements.
• Mentor new or less‑experienced consultants by providing training and remediation.
• Provide ongoing team instruction on child care requirement interpretations, policy updates, and new regulatory initiatives.
• Communicate weekly with assigned supervisors to maintain alignment on regional priorities and needs.
• Review policies, procedures, and regulatory guidance to ensure consistent application across consultant practice.
• Plan and manage independent work from a home office with proper documentation.
