Job summary

EMC Insurance Companies is seeking an experienced Large Accounts Underwriter to manage a profitable portfolio and work within binding authority and regional plans. The role requires at least five years of commercial underwriting experience, familiarity with large premium accounts, and preferred CPCU designation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in insurance/business administration.
• Five years of commercial underwriting experience or related experience.
• Experience with large accounts including $500K+ premiums, loss-sensitive programs, and complex risk profiles preferred.
• Insurance designations such as CPCU preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage and grow a profitable Large Accounts portfolio within underwriting authority and territory.
• Evaluate complex multi-line accounts for pricing, coverage, and risk selection.
• Apply underwriting guidelines using loss history, financial data, and pricing tools.
• Maintain accurate underwriting documentation for decisions and regulatory compliance.
• Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing for Large Accounts.
• Build and strengthen broker/agent relationships to drive growth and retention.
• Educate agency partners on EMC's Large Accounts appetite, capabilities, and services.
• Conduct agency visits to discuss opportunities and performance.
• Collaborate with leadership on agency strategy and business development.
• Serve as a Large Accounts SME for internal partners.
• Monitor market trends to inform underwriting and growth strategies.
