Job summary

Sonoran Desert Institute is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to join our Curriculum Team in a remote capacity limited to certain states. You will create engaging online courses, update existing content, and develop assessments using Canvas and related authoring tools.

You will collaborate with subject matter experts, ensure accessibility, align with learning objectives, and stay current with distance education trends. Travel may be up to 10% for occasional on-site meetings.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instructional Design or related field, or equivalent formal training in instructional design/eLearning.
• Minimum three years of professional instructional design experience, with at least one year in higher education.
• Advanced knowledge of adult learning principles and distance instruction.
• Practical experience with LMS and course-authoring software. Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with SMEs to identify learning objectives and create course documentation and blueprints.
• Design and develop engaging online course materials including assessments and discussions.
• Develop course shells and modules in Canvas using native tools and add-ons (CidiLabs, Design Plus, Canva).
• Source external media with proper citations and support QA processes for learning objectives alignment.
• Stay current with trends in instructional design and distance education; troubleshoot access issues as needed.
