Job summary

Sonoran Desert Institute is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to join our Curriculum Team. This remote role collaborates with subject matter experts to craft online courses, blueprints, and assessments for distance education in higher education.

You will design engaging multimedia content in Canvas, source and license materials, ensure alignment with learning objectives, and support QA processes while staying current with trends in instructional design and accessibility.

Qualifications

• Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify learning objectives and outcomes for online courses.
• Create course documents: blueprints, design documents, project plans, curriculum maps.
• Source digital textbooks and multimedia resources; storyboard and script media assets.
• Apply adult learning theory and accessibility standards to content.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop engaging online course materials with multimedia elements.
• Develop course shells, home pages, modules, and lessons in Canvas.
• Assist with QA processes to ensure alignment with learning objectives.
• Stay current with instructional design trends and distance education best practices.
• Troubleshoot faculty and student access and course functionality.
