Job summary

Sonoran Desert Institute is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to join our Curriculum Team in a remote role restricted to AZ, FL, GA, MI, NV, NC, OH, SC, TN, TX, UT, or VA. You will design online courses, update content, and develop assessments for higher education students.

The role requires a Master’s in Curriculum and Instructional Design or equivalent training, 3+ years in instructional design, and experience with LMS tools and Canva/CidiLabs. Travel up to 10% is expected.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instructional Design or related field
• Certificate or equivalent training in instructional design / eLearning (720 clock hours) if degree is elsewhere
• Minimum 3 years of professional instructional design experience
• At least 1 year of instructional design in higher education
• Advanced knowledge of adult learning principles and distance instruction
• Practical experience with LMS and course-authoring software
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong organizational and time management abilities
• Willingness to travel up to 10%

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with subject matter experts to analyze learning needs and outline objectives
• Create course blueprints, curricula maps, and supporting documents
• Design and develop engaging online courses with multimedia and assessments
• Develop course shells in the LMS (Canvas) using native tools and add-ons
• Source and secure external media with proper citations
• Support Academic Quality Assurance processes for alignment with objectives
• Stay current with trends in instructional design and distance education
• Troubleshoot and resolve course access and functionality issues
• Participate in team meetings and professional development
• Contribute to SOPs for consistency across the department
• Other related work as assigned
