Job summary

Sonoran Desert Institute is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to join our team and shape career-focused online education. Remote position limited to residing in AZ, FL, GA, MI, NV, NC, OH, SC, TN, TX, UT, or VA.

You will collaborate with subject matter experts to analyze learning needs, develop course blueprints, storyboard multimedia, and ensure accessibility. Apply adult learning theories and use Canvas and related tools to craft engaging online courses.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instructional Design or related field.
Certificate or formal training in instructional design / eLearning if degree is not in the field (720 clock hours).
Minimum three years of professional instructional design experience.
At least one year of instructional design experience in higher education.
Advanced knowledge of adult learning principles and distance learning.
Practical experience with LMS and course-authoring software.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines.
Some travel required (up to 10%).

Responsibilities

Collaborate with subject matter experts to analyze learning needs and identify objectives.
Create course and program documentation, blueprints, and curriculum maps.
Storyboard and script multimedia resources; source digital textbooks and resources.
Design engaging online materials including assessments and discussions.
Develop course shells and modules in Canvas using native tools and third-party add-ons.
Ensure accessibility and align with learning objectives; support QA processes.
Stay current with instructional design trends and distance education tech.
Troubleshoot faculty and student course access and functionality.
Participate in team meetings and professional development.
