Job summary

Deaconess Health System in Evansville, IN is seeking a Coder III to ensure accurate facility inpatient coding, DRG capture, and compliant reimbursement.

You will abstract and code diagnoses, enter data into the abstracting system, query physicians, and stay current with coding guidelines through ongoing education.

This remote full-time role requires CPC/CCS or equivalent credentials and a detail-oriented professional to support patient care and hospital revenue.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Facility Inpatient medical record coding
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding and guidelines
• Understanding of healthcare revenue cycle and hospital reimbursement is preferred
• Knowledge of DRG assignment and clinical documentation is preferred
• Experience with CDI staff is preferred
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and analytical skills required
• Current coding credentials and continuing education required

Responsibilities

• Abstract and code diagnoses and procedures from Facility Inpatient medical records using classification systems and conventions
• Enter accurate coding information into the abstracting system for reimbursement and care evaluation
• Review inpatient health records to reflect conditions, diagnoses, procedures, and treatments
• Query attending physicians for thorough documentation supporting codes
• Use current references and guidelines to ensure accurate coding
• Collaborate with CDI staff to capture DRG and ROM/SOI
• Maintain productivity and meet coding expectations
• Maintain knowledge through webinars and continuing education
• Ensure compliance with hospital standards and coding requirements
• Maintain continuing education credits and credentials
• Perform other duties as assigned
