Job summary

BJC HealthCare is seeking an Inpatient II Coder to assign diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient encounters, adhering to regulatory guidelines. The role requires 2–5 years of inpatient coding experience and coder certification (CCS/RHIA/RHIT preferred).

This remote position serves eligible states and collaborates with HIM Operations and other departments to ensure accurate coding and DRG assignments.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of inpatient hospital coding experience.
• CCS, RHIA, or RHIT certification preferred.
• Remote role; eligible states listed in posting.

Responsibilities

• Accurately abstracts data elements for inpatient encounters.
• Stay current with coding conventions and regulatory guidelines.
• Review patient encounters for compliant coding and proper DRG assignment.
• Query providers for clarification when needed.
• Assign codes accurately and in a timely manner.
• Interpret and evaluate documentation to ensure correct coding.
• Collaborate with HIM leadership and other departments to maintain record integrity.
