Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking an Inpatient Hospital Coder for a remote, per diem role in the Health Information Management department. The coder will select diagnosis and procedure codes to ensure compliant, optimal reimbursement, using ICD-10-CM/PCS and related guidelines.

Requirements include a high school diploma, coding certification (AHIMA or AAPC), familiarity with 3M 360 and EPIC, and the ability to work independently from a remote setting. A score of 80%+ on the assessment is expected.

Qualifications

• Must have coding certification/credential through AHIMA or AAPC and be in good standing.
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS or CPT-4 coding classifications.
• Experience with hospital medical coding and remote work.
• Must score 80%+ on assessment; new coders considered with high scores.
• Excellent computer skills and ability to troubleshoot multiple systems.

Responsibilities

• Use a computerized encoding system to sequence diagnoses and procedures per ICD-10-CM/PCS, UHDDS and payer guidelines.
• Report healthcare data elements for external reporting and reimbursement purposes.
• Query providers for clarification on documentation when data is missing or ambiguous.
• Maintain ethical coding practices and comply with internal policies.
• Participate in meetings, LEAN activities, and contribute to shared drives for the coding department.
