Job summary

Virtua Health seeks an experienced inpatient coder to abstract and code medical records for diagnostic and procedural coding. You will apply ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT-4, and encoder guidelines, collaborating with CDI staff to clarify documentation and ensure accurate DRG assignments.

Responsibilities include reviewing records, maintaining compliance, and supporting performance improvement initiatives while ensuring data integrity in the hospital coding workflow.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years inpatient records coding experience or equivalent.
• Ability to perform in a Microsoft Windows environment.
• Detail oriented with high level of accuracy.
• Demonstrate good communication and teamwork skills.
• Experience with electronic health record systems preferred.
• Knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology/ medical terminology.
• AHIMA Certification: CCS required for hires after 10/1/2025.

Responsibilities

• Codes and abstracts hospital medical records for diagnostic and procedural coding.
• Uses ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT-4, and encoder per guidelines.
• Collaborates with CDI staff to clarify documentation.
• Maintains DRG assignment accuracy and compliance.
• Verifies data into the computer system and uses downtime procedures as needed.
• Contributes to performance improvement and accounts receivable goals.
