BJC HealthCare is hiring for an Inpatient Coder I, an entry level role. The coder assigns inpatient diagnosis and procedure codes and thoroughly abstracts data elements according to current coding conventions and regulatory guidelines.

The position emphasizes accuracy and collaboration with CDI, HIM Operations, and related departments to ensure the medical record integrity and coding compliance. Remote eligible with state restrictions; HS diploma or equivalent required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CCS/CCA/RHIA/RHIT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assigns diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient encounters.
• Abstracts data elements per requirements.
• Stays current with changes in coding conventions and guidelines.
• Reviews patient encounters for compliant coding.
• Collaborates with CDI, HIM Operations and other departments to ensure record integrity and coding accuracy.
