Job summary

The Inpatient Coder is a Cognizant remote, work-from-home position supporting Cognizant clients. You will review medical documentation and assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes, while querying physicians to clarify documentation and ensuring accuracy.

This role requires 3+ years of facility-based inpatient coding, CCS/RHIT/RHIA/CPC/CIC credentials, Epic experience, and the ability to meet productivity standards in a fast-paced remote environment.

Qualifications

• Active CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CPC, or CIC credential.
• Three years of facility-based inpatient coding experience.
• Level 1 Trauma coding experience.
• Epic experience.
• Pass coding assessment with 80% or higher.

Responsibilities

• Review documentation to code ICD-10-CM diagnoses and ICD-10-PCS procedures.
• Query physicians to clarify diagnoses and procedures.
• Assign accurate codes using encoder applications per policy and guidelines.
• Perform peer reviews of coding auditors and coders.
• Complete reports as requested.
• Maintain accuracy rate of 98%.
• Meet inpatient productivity: 16 encounters/day, 2/hour, 30 minutes per encounter.
• Coordinate with manager and team on time off and new procedures.
