Job summary

Harrington Group, Inc. is seeking an Industrial Process Safety Engineer or Consultant (remote, U.S.-based) to grow expertise in chemical process safety, hazardous materials, and explosion protection engineering.

The role supports client engagements with mentorship from senior staff and opportunities for leadership as experience grows. You will evaluate chemical inventories, perform DHAs per NFPA standards, and develop defensible protection strategies using engineering and administrative

Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant experience in chemical or mechanical process design, combustible dust hazard analysis, explosion protection, process safety, or related industrial risk consulting.
• B.S. in Engineering or related technical field; PE preferred.
• Experience in industrial facilities and ability to travel 10–30%.

Responsibilities

• Maintain trusted client relationships and advise on process safety risks.
• Communicate with AHJs, insurers, and project stakeholders.
• Evaluate inventories, SDS, and DHAs; classify hazards.
• Review PFDs, P&IDs, control narratives, and drawings for needed fire/explosion protection.
• Perform DHAs per NFPA 660, 652, 654, 61, 484, 664.
• Conduct hazard evaluations and engineering calculations.
• Develop protection options and cost/benefit analyses.
• Design fire and explosion protection systems.
• Research code compliance alternatives and support inspections.
