Job summary

Canonical is an open-source software company delivering Ubuntu and IoT solutions. You will design and implement applications for IoT on constrained devices and gateways, with Embedded Linux at the core, in a collaborative, reviewer-focused environment.

You will contribute to open source IoT packages, work with REST and MQTT, and explore Ubuntu Core, Matter, and connectivity standards while balancing a remote role with global travel.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software development using Go or C++.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, MQTT, or other messaging protocols.
• Familiar with wireless protocols such as WiFi, BLE, Zigbee, Thread.
• Interest in Containers (Docker, Kubernetes), Linux distributions, packaging.
• CI/CD experience (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
• IoT frameworks and protocols; real-time applications.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS or STEM is required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate proactively with a distributed team.
• Develop and maintain open source IoT application packages.
• Debug issues and produce high-quality code.
• Review code produced by upstream Canonical engineers.
• Discuss ideas and collaborate on solutions.
• Experiment with Ubuntu Core and IoT solutions.
• Work on Matter and IoT platform development.
• Participate in IoT standardisation discussions.
• Work from home with 2–4 weeks of travel for events.
