Job summary

Visionworks is seeking a Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to help ensure a great patient experience by preparing patients for onsite and remote exams, performing pre-exam tests, and explaining each step of the process.

You will liaise between patients and Optometrists, assist with eye examinations, manage EMR data, and coordinate with retail staff to schedule follow-ups, always focusing on accuracy and patient care.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience is required.
• Optical or healthcare background preferred.
• Medical office professionalism required.
• HS diploma, GED or equivalent related job experience.
• Training provided.

Responsibilities

• Complete patient registration and gather sensitive information for EMR.
• Assist onsite doctor with eye examinations and document results.
• Explain pre-testing steps to patients and document tests in EMR.
• Support remote eye exams including pre-testing, remote conferencing, and additional testing.
• Transition patients to a retail associate with doctor recommendations.
• Understand MVC plans and explain benefits to patients.
• Preauthorize insurance per SOPs.
• Schedule appointments and manage exam books with the team.
• Maintain patient flow for doctor effectiveness.
• Answer clinical questions and triage ocular emergencies.
• Maintain complete patient records per standards.
• Instruct patients on contact lens insertion, care and handling.
• Place contact lens orders and notify patients when available.
• Know contact lens brands and pull trials as requested.
• Ensure clean environment and proper equipment maintenance.
• Participate in training and obtain required clinical certifications.
• Ability to travel to other locations as needed.
