Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking an HVAC Mechanical Engineer / Project Developer to join our federal team serving U.S. military and other federal sites across the Mid-Atlantic region.

The role is remote with occasional site visits in the Washington DC area for assessments and equipment checks. You will lead design, scope, and cost development for HVAC and low voltage projects, collaborating with Sales and operations to deliver technically sound solutions while managing multiple concurrent projects

Qualifications

• Experience with mechanical and low voltage building automation projects (MEP, HVAC, utilities, SCADA).
• Demonstrated expertise with building mechanical equipment, HVAC, energy management systems, or low voltage building automation systems.
• Experience independently leading site surveys to assess facility systems and equipment.
• Strong estimating skills, preferably with RS Means or other estimating tools.
• Capable of assessing design risk and communicating clearly with customers.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site visits and develop a Statement of Work (SOW) for customer requests.
• Lead design, development, scope definition, and cost development for HVAC and low voltage projects for federal installations.
• Collaborate with Sales to align customer goals and identify opportunities for maintenance, upgrades, or construction.
• Conduct site surveys and data collection to develop concepts for projects from $100k to $2M.
• Review RFPs and design documents to prepare pricing with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Prepare technical proposals and project schedules to support the narrative.
• Define project scope to ensure feasibility, codes compliance, and risk mitigation.
• Build relationships with customer technical personnel and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams.
• Support post-award activities including site surveys and design reviews.
