Job summary

Sharing Excess is hiring an HR Generalist to own end-to-end HR compliance for a nationwide distributed workforce. You will build policies, governance, and documentation that keep the organization compliant and people-centered as we scale.

You will manage state registrations, audits, reporting, and policy localization, partnering with leadership to apply practices consistently while protecting employee information across teams.

Qualifications

• At least five years in HR compliance or people operations.
• Experience owning multistate compliance for distributed workforce.
• Experience registering employers in multiple states.
• Experience building compliance frameworks, SOPs, and calendars from scratch.
• Strong written communication and documentation standards.
• Experience with HRIS and digital employee records management.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across multiple states.
• Own state employment footprint registrations and leave programs.
• Develop state-entry playbooks for new states and advise leadership on costs.
• Create state handbook addenda and policy localizations (paid leave, breaks, final pay, etc.).
• Run leave administration including FMLA, ADA processes, and state paid leave programs.
• Manage employee records, I-9s, certifications, and compliance docs.
• Lead audits, compliance reviews, and reporting with accurate documentation.
• Develop and organize HR policies, SOPs, and governance materials.
• Monitor trainings and certifications to ensure compliance.
• Coordinate with leadership to ensure consistent policy application.
• Support risk mitigation and process improvements; own workers’ comp and OSHA logs.
• Support DOT/FMCSA driver compliance with Safety/Fleet teams.
• Build annual compliance calendar and statutory reporting (EEO-1, OSHA, ACA, WARN).
