Job summary

When is hiring an HR Generalist to own day-to-day HR operations for a fully remote US-based team. You will manage onboarding, offboarding, benefits, HRIS, and employee records while partnering with our fractional Chief People Officer and PEO.

In this hands-on role you’ll shape practical policies, support managers, handle employee questions, coordinate compliance across states, and help nurture a collaborative culture as When scales.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of hands-on HR generalist experience.
• Experience managing onboarding, offboarding, benefits, and employee records.
• Experience supporting employees across multiple states with compliance.
• Hands-on experience with an HRIS and benefits administration.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with discretion of confidential information.
• Comfortable in an early-stage environment where processes are evolving.
• Experience at a startup or high-growth company (strongly preferred).
• PHR or SHRM-CP certification (strongly preferred).

Responsibilities

• Manage onboarding, orientation, and offboarding for a smooth employee experience.
• Prepare offer letters, new hire paperwork, and other employee documentation.
• Administer benefits and HRIS data, including open enrollment and records.
• Maintain HR reporting on headcount, turnover, and benefits enrollment.
• Coordinate annual performance review processes and communications.
• Coordinate multi-state HR compliance with our PEO and wage/hour requirements.
• Draft, update, and maintain the employee handbook and HR policies.
• Develop practical HR templates, checklists, and processes as we grow.
• Serve as first point of contact for day-to-day HR questions and manager support.
• Support engagement initiatives and culture programs.
