Job summary

Work in Progress Consulting is seeking an Associate Consultant of Human Resources/People Operations to support nonprofit and small business clients across the United States. This fully remote, 1099 hourly role averages 10 hours per week with potential for growth and renewal after six months.

Ideal candidates have five or more years in HR leadership, expertise in compliance, policy development, and compensation strategies, and strong communication skills for multi-stakeholder environments.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of management- or director-level work in People Operations or HR.
• Experience interpreting employment law, policy development, and risk management.
• Ability to design people-first policies focused on inclusion and equity.
• Experience with compensation strategies, benchmarking, and metrics.
• Familiarity with HR technologies and remote work tools.

Responsibilities

• Work independently on client projects with scope defined by client contracts.
• Lead HR compliance audits, policy creation, and benefits analysis.
• Coaching and advising clients on organizational culture and processes.
• Create and deliver high-quality client deliverables without AI assistance.
• Schedule meetings, build agendas, and manage project notes and tasks.
