Job summary

HIAS seeks a Housing Caseworker to support asylum-seeker families facing housing instability. The role manages a caseload, conducts monthly needs assessments, and coordinates with partners to develop client-led plans for housing and economic stabilization. Work is conducted virtually.

This position is based at HIAS headquarters in Silver Spring, MD, with a remote option for applicants outside commuting distance in select states. Salary ranges from $55,000 to $60,000 and funding is grant-based.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree required.
• 2-3 years of relevant experience in affordable housing, homeless services, or refugee resettlement.
• Fluency in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of the U.S. immigration system and asylum seeker needs.
• Experience with Microsoft 365; SharePoint and MS Teams preferred; Excel, PowerPoint, Word essential.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; public speaking preferred.
• Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and mediation skills.
• Interpersonal collaboration and relationships with landlords and partners.
• Well-organized, detail-oriented, able to work under pressure.
• Travel within the US may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized housing stability support through monthly needs assessments and partner coordination.
• Navigate rental market, compile applications, and help clients overcome tenancy barriers.
• Cultivate relationships with housing providers and support landlord/tenant relations.
• Research local resources and community partners to support housing goals.
• Coordinate allocation of financial assistance for housing costs.
• Deliver housing orientation and financial literacy training to clients.
• Maintain documentation and participate in QA checks to ensure compliance.
• Share frontline insights and recommend program adaptations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
