Job summary

Munich Re America Services (MRAS) seeks a Head of GSI Property Underwriting to provide portfolio-level leadership for global primary property risks within the GSI framework. This role ensures underwriting quality across local BUs and drives profitability through unified strategies and risk controls.

Located in the US with multiple eligible cities (including Hartford and New York), this senior leadership position oversees referrals, analytics, and training to strengthen GSI's underwriting

Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of Insurance Underwriting practices and procedures; ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data and make decisions.
• Minimum of 10 years of Property Underwriting for primary business.
• Experience underwriting MGA/Program business.
• Experience in US admitted and E&S markets, personal as well as commercial lines.
• Ability to provide clear underwriting intent for new products.
• Ability to explain complex insurance and reinsurance concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong communications, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
• Excellent presentation skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 35%–45%.

Responsibilities

• Set the overall GSI Property Underwriting strategy, guidelines and risk management approaches.
• Oversee GSI underwriting strategies and guidelines through GSI Underwriting teams.
• Coordinate responses to industry trends and regulatory events affecting the GSI portfolio.
• Implement Global Property UW strategies and Global UW guidelines.
• Provide expert handling of referrals outside delegated authority and support BU decisions.
• Lead Property Underwriting Roundtable and support cross-platform initiatives.
• Ensure measurable standards for BU underwriting excellence, KPIs and risk controls.
• Coordinate underwngt strategies and mandates across BUs for market consistency.
• Conduct regional portfolio monitoring to improve profitability of GSI Property.
