Job summary

Selective Insurance is seeking a GL Litigation Specialist to investigate, negotiate, and resolve litigated claims in the Mid-Atlantic region, including New Jersey. The role will be remote, with management of cases across state and federal courts.

You will handle depositions, mediations, and trials, analyze medical and expert reports, and coordinate experts. A college degree and 7–10 years of GL claims experience are preferred, with CPCU and multi-state licenses a plus.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years of general liability claims experience required; strong GL litigation experience essential.
• Adjuster licensing in multiple states preferred.
• College degree preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of risk transfer principles related to additional insured coverage and contractual indemnity.
• Preferred: CPCU designation, Senior Claims Law coursework, or other industry training/designations.

Responsibilities

• Investigate litigated claims through telephone, written correspondence, and field contact with claimants, attorneys, insureds, witnesses, and other parties.
• Attend depositions, mediations, and trials as required.
• Analyze deposition transcripts, expert reports, and medical documents to assess loss and contributory or comparative negligence.
• Assign and coordinate medical or other experts for examinations.
• Handle incoming calls and correspondence from insureds, claimants, and agents regarding claim issues.
• Negotiate and settle litigated claims within delegated authority and prepare settlement documents.
• Maintain accurate case status in the claims system and calculate negligence percentages for billing purposes.
• Receive, verify, and approve expense reports related to claim investigation and handling.
• Generate check requisitions for all loss and expense payments.
• Identify and pursue salvage and subrogation opportunities.
• Participate in claims review and settlement conferences.
• Close claims by issuing payment or denial letters and securing appropriate releases.
