Job summary

ABB is seeking a GIS Commissioning Engineer to lead the installation and turnover of medium‑voltage GIS and RMU systems remotely from the US. You will design work plans, estimate costs, and drive safe, compliant commissioning with customers and ABB teams.

You will mentor junior engineers, support FAT/IFAT, and engage with utilities and EPCs. This role requires 10+ years in field engineering and willingness to travel up to 50%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of commissioning and field engineering experience.
• Strong experience with ABB GIS (ZX Portfolio) and RMU (SafeRing / SafePlus).
• Experience with ABB Protection & Control platforms (ZEE600, SSC600, PCM600).
• Knowledge of generator paralleling systems and critical power infrastructure.
• Proficient technical writing skills for commissioning documentation.
• Ability to travel 40-50%.

Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning of ABB GIS and RMU systems per ABB standards and IEEE/IEC/ANSI requirements.
• Create commissioning work plans, cost estimates, schedules, risk assessments, and MOPs.
• Support execution and manage commissioning through energization and customer acceptance.
• Support FAT and IFAT activities.
• Interface with customers, EPCs, utilities, and ABB teams.
• Identify commissioning risks and lead mitigation actions.
• Support contract managers with technical input on scope and claims.
• Perform site visits to support commissioning teams.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers.
