Job summary

DataKind is seeking a values-driven Full Stack Software Engineer to build and evolve the UI and API layer of our education data platform. You will work across frontend and backend, turning complex data into usable insights for schools and districts.

Remote in the U.S. with daily hours aligning to 8am–6pm EST. You’ll report to the VP of Technology and collaborate with Data Engineering, Data Science, Product, and Customer Success to deliver features that improve student outcomes.

Qualifications

• Deep alignment with DataKind's mission and values, and commitment to educational equity and data-driven impact.
• 3-5 years of professional full stack software engineering with frontend and backend ownership.
• Proficiency in a modern JavaScript/TypeScript framework (React) and backend API development.
• Working proficiency in Python, SQL, and GCP to support data pipelines and infra.
• Experience designing RESTful or GraphQL APIs and writing automated tests with CI-enforced coverage.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain the web app frontend and the APIs that power it.
• Translate requirements into clean, well-tested code with a focus on data products.
• Own features end-to-end from design to deployment.
• Collaborate with Product and Customer Success to tailor solutions for institutional users.
• Contribute to frontend architecture, API standards, and documentation.
• Partner with Data Engineering to support data pipelines and scalable infra.
