Job summary

Vessel Advisors is seeking an experienced Controller to manage accounting, job cost, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition for a portfolio of construction clients, primarily general contractors and specialty trades. The role reports to the VP of Operations and client executives on a fractional basis, guiding financial planning and controls.

Qualifications

• Eight+ years progressive accounting experience with ownership of job cost, WIP, and %‑of‑completion revenue recognition for GC or specialty contractors.
• Strong GAAP and ASC 606 fluency with construction contracts.
• Experience leading multi-client engagements and communicating results to owners in plain language.
• Ability to leverage AI tools to automate reconciliations and recurring analyses.

Responsibilities

• Own month-end close for multiple clients, including job cost review, accruals, and WIP tie‑to‑GL.
• Lead estimate-to-complete meetings with project managers and owners; document changes.
• Review pay applications, schedules of values, change orders, and lien waivers before payments.
• Present monthly results to owners and leadership with clear explanations of movements.
