Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (EAA-CX) to anchor architectural efforts across globally distributed squads. You will shape the AI maturity roadmap, drive platform excellence, and define build-versus-buy decisions for AI tooling, all while maintaining strict security and operational standards.

The role emphasizes leading high-impact initiatives end-to-end, delivering scalable backend services with robust observability and production safety in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with large-scale distributed systems.
• Proven ability to lead ambiguous, high-impact technical initiatives from whiteboard to production.
• Strong experience with cloud-native infra including AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience building secure internal tools or platforms with data governance and security controls.

Responsibilities

• Own the EAA-CX AI maturity and developer-experience roadmap, collaborating with leadership and squads to surface opportunities.
• Lead platform excellence workstreams to improve reliability, observability, and operational readiness for Tier-1 systems.
• Define build-versus-buy strategy for AI tooling and developer-experience across EAA-CX.
• Provide staff-level architectural coverage across squads, ensuring portfolio-wide coherence.
• Build and operate highly reliable distributed backend services with full SLO ownership and secure production changes.
