Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Access & Authorization team. You will design and operate authentication, OAuth, sessions, tokens, 2FA, and edge authorization. Build secure Go and gRPC services used across Coinbase products and partner experiences.

You will mentor engineers, lead cross-functional designs, and ensure security with scalable, observable systems while collaborating with product, security, and infrastructure teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience with Go or similar systems language.
• Experience designing secure APIs with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and JWTs.
• Proficiency with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and data stores like Redis or DynamoDB.
• Experience delivering cross-functional projects from design to production.
• Ability to communicate clearly with engineers, product, security, and infra teams.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design and operation of authentication, OAuth, sessions, tokens, 2FA, and edge authorization.
• Build secure, low-latency Go and gRPC services used across Coinbase products and partners.
• Lead technical designs for initiatives like signed tokens, passkeys, device-aware auth, and mobile OAuth.
• Partner with product, security, fraud, and infra teams to balance user experience, security, and compliance.
• Create self-service tooling to enable safe adoption of access capabilities at scale.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and on-call participation.
