Job summary

American Public University System, Inc. is seeking a student financial aid support specialist to advise students on Federal Student Aid and ensure funding for degree programs. You will deliver high-quality service, resolve issues in real time using financial aid data, and collaborate with Admissions, Advising and Student Support as needed.

The role requires 1–2 years of customer service experience, an associate’s degree, and strong communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of demonstrated customer service experience.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.
• Associate's degree required.
• Solutions oriented attitude with critical thinking and problem solving skills.
• Excellent organization and time management with ability to multi-task with minimal supervision.
• High level of telephone etiquette and professionalism.
• General proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook & Teams).

Responsibilities

• Conducts inbound phone-based discussions advising and educating students on Federal Student Aid.
• Provides high level of customer service ensuring students are funded to access courses and pursue degrees.
• Engages in problem solving and uses basic math to review financial aid package information.
• Promotes high-quality service and enhances the student experience.
• Researches with financial aid and student databases to assist students and parents in real time.
• Meets daily duties within established Service Level Agreements and adapts to workflow needs.
• Collaborates with Admissions, Advising & Student Support as needed.
• Maintains accurate knowledge of the University’s products and services.
• Adheres to laws, regulations, policies, and compliance requirements; stays current on industry standards.
• Maintains NSLDS eligibility as defined by the US Department of Education.
• Supports diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
• Performs other duties as directed.
