Job summary

SMX is seeking a Cyber Security Engineer to provide security engineering, compliance, and risk management support for cloud environments aligned with NIST SP 800-53, FedRAMP, and DoD IL4–6. This remote role supports a Herndon, VA team and emphasizes automation, evidence collection, and continuous monitoring.

You will advise partners and customers on federal security requirements, develop authorization artifacts (SSPs, POA&Ms, SARs), and collaborate with DevOps to implement secure controls across

Qualifications

• Security engineering and compliance support for FedRAMP and DoD cloud environments.
• Advise on authorization strategies, control implementation and audit readiness.
• Develop, review, and maintain SSPs, SAPs, SARs, POA&Ms and related docs.
• Support RMF authorization, gap assessments, evidence development, remediation.
• Leverage automation to streamline compliance workflows and evidence collection.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with 3PAOs, AO, and stakeholders to address findings.
• Perform continuous monitoring, vulnerability management, and POA&M updates.
• Review changes for security impact and maintain authorization boundaries.
• Collaborate with cloud engineering/DevOps on security controls across AWS/Azure.
