Job summary

Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota is seeking a Family Development Specialist to support foster and adoptive families across multiple SD communities. The role involves guiding families through licensing steps, completing home studies, and coordinating with SD DSS/CPS.

Regular travel is required, with mileage reimbursement. Part-time, 0–29 hours, evenings/weekends as needed. A $300 sign-on bonus is available for external candidates who meet the qualifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field plus 1–2 years related experience.
• Licensure as a Social Worker or Social Work Associate preferred.
• Must be at least 21 years of age and pass agency background checks.
• Requires active auto-insurance, a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one with approved status.

Responsibilities

• Assist families in navigating the process to become a foster or adoptive resource.
• Complete home study assessments for prospective foster and kinship families pursuing licensing and adoption.
• Partner with families to complete the home study process and provide resources and support throughout the process.
• Be a valuable member of the Licensing Team and work with South Dakota DSS/CPS.
