Job summary

Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota is seeking a Family Development Specialist to help foster and adoptive families navigate licensing and permanency. You will complete home study assessments, partner with families to finalize the home study, and work with the Licensing Team in coordination with SD DSS/CPS.

This is a part-time, remote/community-based role serving several SD communities with regular travel; a social work degree and licensure are preferred, along with background checks and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field, plus 1–2 years related experience.
• Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Social Work Associate preferred.
• Must be at least 21 years of age and pass background checks.
• Requires active auto-insurance and a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assist families in navigating the process to become a foster or adoptive resource.
• Complete home study assessments for prospective foster and kinship families.
• Partner with families to complete the home study process and provide resources.
• Collaborate with South Dakota DSS/CPS within Licensing Team.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field

Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Social Work Associate preferred
