Job summary

Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota is seeking a Family Development Specialist to help children in out-of-home care find permanent families. This remote/community-based role requires traveling up to 20 miles within SD and collaborating with state partners to support foster and kinship licensing and adoptions.

You will complete home study assessments, partner with families, and provide resources, while aligning with LSS core values.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field.
• One to two years related experience.
• Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Social Work Associate preferred.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must pass agency background checks and driving status.

Responsibilities

• Assist families in navigating the process to become a foster or adoptive resource.
• Complete home study assessments for prospective foster and kinship families who are pursuing Foster Care and Kinship licensing and adoption approval.
• Partner with families to complete the home study process, write the home study assessment, and provide resources and support to families throughout the process.
• Be a valuable member of the Licensing Team and work collaboratively with South Dakota DSS/CPS.
