Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Medical Coder for the Emergency Department to join our remote coding team. The role focuses on assigning ICD-10 and CPT codes for ED facility services while ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and client-specific rules.

Ideal candidates hold AHIMA or AAPC credentials and have 2+ years of ED coding experience, proficiency with Excel and EMR systems, and strong attention to detail. This full-time position offers telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC).
• 2+ years of ICD-10, CPT, facility charging, and modifiers experience.
• 2+ years of Emergency Room coding experience.
• Windows PC experience; proficient with Excel and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate ICD-10, CPT and modifiers for facility services.
• Adhere to official coding guidelines and client guidelines.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity as required by Optum.
• Understand APC codes and Medicare policies.
• Query physicians when needed and stay up-to-date on coding knowledge.
• Participate in department meetings and training.
