Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a contract remote ED medical coder to review emergency department records, assign ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes, and determine E/M levels per guidelines. You will ensure accurate charge capture and compliance with CMS, NCCI edits, and payer rules while collaborating with leadership and client representatives.

The role is fully remote, based out of OR and offers benefits typical of a contract position. Salary is hourly and dependent on experience.

Qualifications

• Review emergency department medical records to assign accurate ICD-10-CM codes, CPT/HCPCS codes and modifiers.
• Accurately assign facility E/M levels per guidelines and charging methodologies, including ACEP tool knowledge.
• Analyze documentation from nursing staff, physicians, and departments to ensure complete code assignment and charge capture.
• Apply official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, NCCI edits, and payer-specific requirements.
• Review accounts for procedural services and injections/infusions when applicable.
• Identify documentation deficiencies and communicate clarification needs.
• Maintain compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer, and organizational policies.
• Participate in coding quality reviews, audits, and process improvements.
• Stay current on coding updates, reimbursement changes, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with leadership, auditors, and client representatives to resolve issues.

Responsibilities
