Job summary

Topstep is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team within the Trading Platform that builds TopstepX, with real‑time order flow, market data, and services behind them. You’ll be accountable for reliability, quality, and delivery, while fostering the health and day‑to‑day running of the team; hands‑on work is welcome but not expected.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience including production systems, integrations, and operations.
• 2+ years of engineering management experience — hiring, setting direction, coaching, and developing engineers across levels.
• Track record of delivering complex technical work balancing feature delivery with reliability and technical investment.
• Experience leading teams that own production systems — on‑call, incident response, reliability.
• Culture of psychological safety, agency, and continuous learning.
• Technical credibility to guide architecture and trade‑offs for backend and distributed systems (high‑availability, real‑time, event-driven).
• Hands‑on with .NET/C# and distributed systems, plus AWS, Docker, Kubernetes.
• Excellent communication across technical and non-technical audiences; advocate for team needs.

Responsibilities

• Run the Team: set direction, hiring bar, interview process, capacity planning, day-to-day operations.
• Lead and Develop the Team: 1:1s, feedback, performance reviews, coaching, growth.
• Drive Reliability and Operational Excellence: availability, performance, observability, on‑call health, incidents.
• Drive Delivery: accountability for cadence and roadmap prioritization including reliability efforts.
• Partner across the Org: collaborate with senior engineers, other leads, Product, and operations.
