Job summary

Canonical is hiring an engineering manager to lead a team of remote engineers across the world. You will coach, mentor, and develop engineers, set expectations with cross-functional teams, and drive modern software development practices in a distributed environment.

Effective technical leadership and a background in Linux, virtualization, and microservice architectures are essential. This role offers remote work with periodic global travel and engages with the open source community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree.
• Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
• Experience programming in C and/or Go.
• Proven track record of growing people and delivering high-quality software.
• Experience leading distributed teams in remote and global settings.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of remote engineers.
• Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback and hands-on career development.
• Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
• Advocate and advance modern software development practices.
• Participate in the engineering process through code and architectural review.
• Engage with Canonical, the open source community and partners.
• Work from home with global travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.
